Some APIs are too dry for tablet pressing after granulation, necessitating the contractual design and construction of two portable GMP powder process skids by CPS. These skids are equipped to blend APIs and water to stringent tolerances. The GMP Wetting skid is positioned above the tablet press, and dry APIs are delivered either via vacuum transfer from an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) or gravity-fed from an IBC located on the floor above. Upon receiving the bulk APIs, the powder is gravimetrically controlled and delivered to a CPS custom blender equipped with concentric (2) variable frequency drive (VFD) controlled augers (protected by an air seal). These augers blend the mass-delivered water-in-feed (WFI) into the powder. The wetted powder is then passed through a real-time near-infrared (NIR) sensor and subsequently processed through a conical mill for resizing before entering the tablet press. The entire system incorporates an automated cleaning-in-place (CIP) and drying cycle.
