A specialty metals manufacturer engaged CPS to develop a solution to address critical safety hazards and product quality concerns. Prior to releasing a large metal ingot for manufacturing, metal chips are collected for testing, undergoing a multi-step cleaning process involving acid and three additional solutions. However, operator errors in the acid dipping process led to inaccurate test results, causing defective products to be inadvertently approved for manufacturing. These errors resulted in costly product recalls, impacting both the company’s financial performance and reputation.

To mitigate these risks, CPS designed a custom pick-and-place machine that ensures consistent and accurate cleaning while eliminating health hazards associated with toxic acids and noxious gas exposure. Given the space constraints, a robotic solution was deemed impractical due to its large footprint. Instead, CPS developed a compact, automated system that seamlessly integrates within the existing fume hood, enhancing both safety and process reliability.
